Art-Gallery of Manuscripts & Miniatures

An Art Gallery of Manuscripts & Miniatures is located at Rajasthan Oriental Research Institute, a department of Rajasthan Government established with a view to amortise and explore, collect, preserve, edit and publish ancient literature of Rajasthan and adjacent areas available in Sanskrit, Prakrit,, Apbhramsa & Hindi-Rajasthani.

A number of manuscripts extending miniatures in bountiful, which on stylistic ground are termed as Pala, Western Indian. Rajput, & Jammu-Kashmir schools and like wise some of the manuscripts lack miniatures but are treated rare on the ground of being based largely on palm, birch-bark, paper, wood and cloth, while others on the ground of excelled calligraphy and text called as Dvipath, Tripath and Panchpath.

This vast treasure of Art & Indology had remained unnoticed for a couple of years. Therefore in the year 2002-2003 an Art Gallery has been established in two different halls where in the above enumerated objects are displayed for men of letters, scholars and individuals. World famous 'Arsha-Ramayana', 'Gita Govind' (Excellent specimens of Mevar school). Famous illuminated 'Kalpasutra' of VS 1485 (Western Indian; profusely illustrated in gold) Buddhistic manuscript 'Arya Mahavidya' (Pal school. parchment), Illustrated Bhagwat in subtle characters, South Indian Gita, (Tanjayur style) etc are on display. Jain 'Vijnapti Patras', numerous Horoscopes (exceeding 200 feet length) 'Bhagvat', Bhagvat Gita & 'Durga Mahatmya' are among important scrolls. More over, scroll, Shatchakra Nirupan' illustrates the doctrine of 'Kundalini' Jagran. Among the rare manuscripts 'Dhvanyalok-lochana of VS 1204 (oldest on paper available in India), palm leaf based manuscript 'Shatak Vrtti' (VS 1158), An shorten but authenticated manuscript of 'Prithviraj-Raso' from famous Dharnoj village of Gujarat and a number of manuscripts written profusely in gold ink are prominent. In the annexed hall numerous tantric diagrams naming Gayatri Kamdhenu Yantra, Panchanguli-Yantra, Pirnama etc are on display which are competent to fulfill any desire of the aspirant viz long-life, good health, wealth, protection from enemies etc.
